The Beginning Is Always Today

The work was part of Experience Chinatown organized by Pao Arts Center. The design of the mural portrays stories of Boston Chinatown where immigrants from diverse cultures settled, and how Chinatown residents in the past thrived through difficult times with courage and perseverance. Living through the Exclusion Act, laundry businesses, the garment industry, and the construction of El, past residents left us with one of the few remaining Chinatowns in the US and a rich cultural heritage to be preserved and celebrated. Today, thinking about the collective actions we can take for a healthy Chinatown, I hope this mural inspires passersby to reflect and start doing something for our beloved Chinatown. The work was on view at 68 Essex Street during summer in 2024. Read more about the mural here.
